A Picnic

July 25, 2010 - 5:43 pm No Comments

It has been weeks since my last entry; I did not feel like blogging due to my whirlwind schedules :) I will blog more of what caused the busy schedule in my next entry. As for now, I am just happy that I had a fun-filled picnic day with family and friends yesterday! It’s been years since I last went to a picnic and I have forgotten how fun it could be, especially with the tons of food throughout the day ;) Talk about a food lover huh! LOL!

The food, barbequed ones not in the picture

As I was transferring the photos from the micro sd of the picnic yesterday, I kept thinking of how good the barbecued food was. There’s just this great ambiance by the beach, you tend to eat more as the food tastes just a little bit tastier than it usually was. Anyhow, we decided that this will be our monthly activity from here on. I am so looking forward for the next one…

Happy Earth Day

April 22, 2010 - 2:29 pm 1 Comment

Today is Earth Day, I did not know this until I saw the Google’s Doodle :) I have the habit of hovering my mouse over the doodle to see what it is all about, and today is no different than before. I’m glad I did, though. I may not be an extremist when it comes to fighting for the environment, but I sure do support the cause whenever I can.

A Day In A Life Of A Firefighter

January 27, 2010 - 1:21 pm 6 Comments

It’s been a busy week for me, quite stressed out that I may need acne scar creams since  I’m experiencing a skin break out at the moment. Anyway, I get to see a glimpse of a day in a life of a firefighter last Saturday. The company I worked for , organised a training conducted by The Fire & Rescue Department, Jalan Lintas, Kolombong onFire Prevention & Safety in Building.

It started with a talk on Fire Science by the State Director himself, and boy did he captivate all of our attention! He was the Training Director before, so it’s no wonder he have the ability to keep us all alert all throughout the 1 hour talk session. After a short break, it was then followed by a talk on fire drill by one of the senior officers. A  demo on the usage of  fire  extinguisher came next before lunch, ensuring the participants to know how to use the fire extinguishers to put out fire.

After lunch, all the activities that followed was done outdoor. The activities gave the participants a feel on the equipments used by Fire & Rescue Department. There were five fire fighting clothing/uniforms for our staff to use, to feel how sweaty they can be wearing the safety uniforms and also the weight of it! We get to test the fire hoses,  experienced the water pressure that came out from them and some were lucky enough to get on the stairs crane on the fire engine - and see the surrounding view of the are from up above..

The water pressure from the hose can reached up to 7 bar!

Someone was up there….

I really wanted to get on the crane, but too bad the weather didn’t permit me to and it was almost time for the course to be over anyway. I hope I’ll get a chance to do that next time, but meanwhile, I’ve got a brand new perspective and respect for the fire fighters. They’re putting their lives into danger when they’re working on putting out the fire, so it is best to prevent it from happening, for there is no winning situation when a fire becomes the master and the fire fighters have to come in and do their part.

It’s all start from each of us. Remember to unplug all the electrical appliances from the socket, or at least switch it off when it is not in use. Oh, I know a few of my friends that has this habit of leaving the phone charger on the socket, with the power on, even when they’re not charging their phones! Prevention is better than cure, and there is no cure in case of fire. Be safe everybody.

Flea-tastic Bazaar 2

December 14, 2009 - 3:06 pm 4 Comments

It’s the 3rd week of December. Gosh, I’m not done with my Christmas gifts shopping yet.. I should’ve opted for online shopping weeks ago knowing that I’ll be busy with work this way. I could do with some glass tile for the kitchen too. I’ll be spending some time in the kitchen this week, baking! Why? Because I’m planning on joining my friend, Odiri, to be one of the vendors during the upcoming Flea-static Bazaar 2 this Sunday, 20th December 2009. Refer to the poster below for more information.

Calling all shoppers, erm especially.. Chegu Carol - come and visit us!  If I don’t have time to bake and sell my baked goods, I’ll be there helping my friend anyway :) Here’s the map should you have trouble going there ..

Of RWMF 2009 & MGK9

July 20, 2009 - 10:37 pm 18 Comments

Monday, a week ago, I got home in one piece from the Rainforest World Music Festival 2009! A week late post, and since most of you who went have already posted your views and photos on this event, it made it harder for me to voice out my experience without clashing with the content of your posts :P As most of you know, this is my 2nd year experiencing the event under the MGK9’s umbrella :) I’ll let the photos to do most of the talking from here on …

The crowd on the last day of the event during the concert

As expected, this event didn’t draw as much crowd as it did the year before due to the H1N1 scare.. but it certainly didn’t lack much though! Despite the masks that were given out for free for the awareness of this epidemic, I can say that this didn’t deter the party goers as you can see from the photos above. In fact, the masks were mainly taken for photo-taking sessions! Oh, I’m sure many of you that I know can vouch for this! LOL! So this may answer your puzzles on what with the big hoohah on this event when it was not as you expected it to be, Chegu Carol :P Lack of crowd could be one of them. As for Cyril’s suggestion on the toilets for the public, I think Sarawak Tourism Board installed a few more mobile toilets this year than they did last year, but as we all know, human nature, we tend to go to the nearest ones even though there’s a long queue ahead of us :P

I was not happy with the food provided for the Security and other volunteers though, it was even worst than last year’s. Tasteless, just like the food for the patients at the hospitals :P But at least there were a lot more varieties of food and drinks being sold for the public. For all the amounts of food and alcoholic beverages consumed in this 3-days event, one would need the best diet pills if it were to go on for more than the 3-days given ;)

Great performance from the Zawose’s Family - I get to watched them from the stage!

Working as a part-timer with MGK9 sure was trying and tiring :P But we sure have a few priviledges that came with the uniforms and of course, some fun time too! As our friend from Singapore said, Silvanus, we took this opportunity to get together with the friends that we met last year and also meet new batch of friends! A great way for socialising indeed :) These experiences were the kind that couldn’t be experienced if we were to go as the audience.

The Sabahan part timers with Ladybird - is this one of those pics you’ve been waiting for, Ladybird?

Another thing that I like was watching the demo training! It was really awesome! Here’s a session of the dog attack training with the nuzzle on…

All in all, I’m just happy that my leave was approved and to be able to join the MGK9. Thanks again, Leo, for the call back! It was nice to see all of you again, and to be able to carve some memorable experience with all of you… especially, Ladybird ;)
