Controlling MY Addiction

February 9, 2010 - 3:17 pm 10 Comments

To my friends and those that have been following my blog posts, you will know what my addiction is. Mobile phones and computers or rather laptops/netbooks. I now owned 4 mobile phones and a Dell Inspiron 14 laptop. I bought the laptop about 3 years ago, it’s now showing its wear and tear. I’ve been eyeing the Dell Inspiron Mini 10 for months, and now that it’s selling for RM999 at Dell Malaysia’s website, it’s beckoning to me more and more. Alas, I can just feel my new year’s resolution going down the drain. Arghhhh!!

I am planning to go for at least a vacation sometime this year, so at least that helps to keep my addiction in check. When I was with the previous company I worked for, I would have bought the netbook right away knowing that I was sure to get the bonus during Chinese New Year for at least a month’s pay. But now, only selected staff will get a bonus and I’m one of those new staff that might not get any at all.  So, I’ll just save up for that since I don’t want to purchase anymore gadget with any of my credit cards. I am determine to clear off at least half of my debts by year end, and have none eventually. I am getting older, and I am aiming to live my life comfortably. I don’t want to live from paycheck to another anymore and one way to ensure that is of course, getting rid of my addiction for new gadgets :P

Someday I hope I’ll be able to have financial freedom and by then, I could just get whatever gadgets that I want without having to suffer after that! LOL!

Of Gadgets Sunday & A Great Blue(s) Monday

November 9, 2009 - 11:20 am 8 Comments

Despite falling asleep around 2.30 in the morning, I was already awake by 6a.m. yesterday. How frustrating it was when I couldn’t go back to sleep on a Sunday. I decided to read a self improvement book, The Power Of Your Subconscious Mind by Joseph Murphy. I’ve been looking for this book for years since an online friend suggested this book to me and only got hold of it about a month ago. After a few excerpts, it changed my view on things and it helped me to rebound from whatever it was that pulling me down last week. A fresh view on life, I felt like a person who went to see a Plano cosmetic dentist and had her teeth makeover.

Mom will be  going on holiday to my aunt’s place in KL this Saturday, so she wanted to get herself a small, light netbook since her Sony Vaio laptop is too heavy to lug around. Talk about Mafia Wars addiction! Yep, that is why she wants a netbook. To play Mafia Wars LOL! Anyhow, being a person with a high interest over gadgets as I am, a certain someone convinced me that a high end mobile phone is more suitable for me than a netbook, I tried to share this view with my Mom. Once we browsed through the upper floor of Karamunsing Complex, we thought of checking out TecAsia at the ground floor. But alas, on our way downstairs, we passed by the PDA shop and I dragged Mom to check out the line ups there. The salesgirl showed us the following two phones:

 HTC Touch Diamond 2

 htctouchpro2

HTC Touch Pro 2

The salesgirl insisted that the Mafia Wars could be played on these babies. So she and her colleague kept on trying and asked us to wait. About 2 hours later, they gave up and asked us to leave our numbers so that they can call once they ensure that it really can be done. Yes, we waited that long, Mom really wanted to get the HTC Touch Pro 2 since it is more convenient than carrying a netbook everywhere she goes. So off we went to 1Borneo to check out the PDA Expert shop there after sending off my sis to her campus.

While Mom was checking out the HTC Touch Pro 2, I browsed through the shop and got the salesman to let me test the following phone:

htc_touch_hd

 HTC Touch HD

I like the big screen size, 3.8-inch TFT-LCD flat touch-sensitive screen with 480 x 800 WVGA resolution and it’s less bulky than the HTC Touch Pro 2 since it is has no physical keypads. Oh, I’ve been wanting to get a HTC phone, with the Windows Mobile operating system for so long! That is why I know where exactly is this shop in 1B even though I can get lost in that mall! LOL! But it’s Mom who wanted to get a netbook but was thinking of opting for the HTC Touch Pro 2 instead. After about an hour there, we know for sure that no mobile phones can carry the load of games such as Mafia Wars. Well, Mom’s Nokia E75 could actually, but only for the new Facebook account. Not the previous one opened before the FB upgrade though. In the end, Mom got herself …..

Been looking for a Lenovo netbook in Karamunsing, but to no avail. So a visit to 1Borneo was not a lost cause. But hey, that’s not the only thing we went home with …

I succumbed to the call of HTC Touch HD!

So you may read a review on these two gadgets sometime soon! :D There goes my will of not getting anymore gadgets this year and my savings.. *sigh* But at least, this was not added into my mountains of credit cards debts! Got Mom to swipe hers instead since I left mine at home (now what’s the use of this action? LOL) and will pay her with cash later.  There’s a new HTC Touch HD 2 announced, but the pricing is seriously way over my budget. To those who read my status in FB yesterday, yes, I did not get the HTC Touch Pro 2, wanted too but for RM3,199? No, thank you, at least not yet hehe. This one busted my budget actually, but at least this helped to boost up my mood too. Talk about being a gadgets shopaholic huh?  Anyway, on top of that, tis’ The Blues’ Monday .. Chelsea is now 5 points clear ahead when they won 1-0 over Manchester United this morning!

p.s:

My deepest, sincere apology to a dear friend for hurting her the way I did…. no words, no actions can make things right again, but I just want you to know that I really am sorry for everything … if you ever come across this blog again ….

Sony Ericsson W380i

May 16, 2009 - 7:06 am 8 Comments

As most of my friends knows, mobile phones are something that I really enjoy trying out. I’ve been trying to stop myself from getting another phone this year, as the last phone that I got, Sony Ericsson W960i was less than a year old :P But alas, I failed to keep my intention… I got myself a Sony Ericsson W380i (SE W380i) to complete my collection of sliding (Samsung SGH-U600), candy bar and now a clamshell phones!

sew380i

SE W380i; I got this Magnetic Gray

The first thing that I noticed about this phone is it’s simple yet elegant design. Then the price, RM550.00, even less than that if you know how to negotiate ;) The price range for mobile phones has really gone down nowadays with MP3, 1.3MP camera and bluetooth as its basic function. The package came with a memory card of 512MB (Memory Stick Micro (M2)), but it can be upgraded up to 2GB. There is external screen, enough to see if there’s incoming messages, caller ID or the song title when you’re in the Walkman mode. This phone doesn’t come with 3G, but even phones with 3G function are cheaper than what it used to be.

You can check out more details of this phone from Sony Ericsson’s website.

Not bad for a basic phone that comes with an affordable price eh? Like most walkman line of Sony Ericsson phones, this phone comes with flight mode too. But of course, you may want to upgrade the memory stick first or else you’ll just end up listening to the same 5 0r 6 songs over and over again with the 512MB memory LOL!

What, it’s Sunday Again?

April 5, 2009 - 1:40 pm 6 Comments

As you see the title, that was the first thing that crossed my mind when I woke up this morning! How time flies… time just seem to pass me by so quickly that I feel that I haven’t achieve anything significant over the week… and the fact that I was feeling unwell during the week didn’t help me feel much better either …

Nevertheless, Sundays are the day that I get to really look around the house as I didn’t have much time to spare during the weekdays … much to my dismay, I realised that the ceiling fan at the living room is going kaput soon… which means I’m going to have to shop around for discount ceiling fans for I don’t want to splurge just on a ceiling fan! :P I have the tendency to buy things on an impulse, especially when I’m feeling low … *sigh* just look at the two cell phones that I owned now …

Speaking of buying on impulse, I almost did just that last night on a Canon Compact camera … even though I want to buy a DSLR for myself, I still need to get myself a compact camera since the one I’m using at the moment belongs to Mom! :P

Yes, I want the blue one!

Yes, I want the blue one!

I really should be careful with my money, but …. I just love shopping! *sigh*

Must’ve Gotten It From Mom…

March 29, 2009 - 11:36 am 2 Comments

You know what I hate most? Going shopping around the days where people just got their paychecks and the shopping malls are congested! LOL! But I had to be in those seas of people in the mall yesterday since Mom wanted to get something …. a white Sony Vaio P!

Apart from that, Mom wanted to subscribe to Maxis broadband service, and luckily we went to Maxis centre in Warisan Square first before heading over to Karamunsing Complex to get her pocket laptop :P It took 2.5 hours for the salesman to install everything on that small thing, that my sister had the chance to give the playstation 3 a try while waiting… so there went my supposedly time to rest yesterday afternoon after work…

I haven’t really tried out that Sony Vaio P, but one thing I can say, it takes forever to start it up with Windows Vista Basic installed as it’s OS! But it really is convenient to bring along with you wherever you go though … and I guess, this is where I got that interest for tech gadgets … must’ve gotten it from Mom.. teehee!
