Medical Check Up

July 18th, 2011

During my very short employment as an Admin Clerk with a certain insurance agency, it came to my knowledge that individuals with health problems are required to go through medical check ups. I am one of those that will need to declare that I have hypertension, and this will increase my premium = more to pay monthly. I’m sure, a lot would be grateful for any plan that offers no medical exam life insurance for a change.

Astrid were saying about going to have her medical check up soon. My last check up was last year, right after I was officially diagnosed with hypertension and got myself tons of medication. I am grateful that nothing else is wrong with my system apart from the high blood pressure, which is now under control.

Missing those days where such things were not something to worry about. But, got to admit… yes, I am getting older…

Family Matters

July 18th, 2011

Is there anyone in your family that has the history of depression or anxiety? Unfortunately to say, there is in my family, on both Mom’s and Dad’s side. There are well now, admitted to the institution and I think they went through the dual diagnosis treatment as part of their passage to healthy mental state. It is sad to see how the people around here perceive these kind of patients though.

Mental health is just as serious as other diseases such as cancer, but people just treat them differently. Sometimes they are being avoided, as if they carry some contagious diseases instead. But for us, family matters. We are glad that at least they got help rather than being ill for the rest of their lives. Yes, they’re dependent on medication, but so are most people with hypertension and diabetes, right?

If there is anyone in your family that is unlucky enough to have depression and such, offer them to get some help instead.

Water, Please!

July 18th, 2011

How annoying it is to wake up in the morning, you’re already running late and found out that there’s no water coming out from the tap? Very, isn’t it? I’m sure each of us here in Sabah at least, have this kind of encounter. It’s more annoying when there were no notice upfront on the water supply interruption by the Water Department. This is when we all wish that we have steel drum to keep some water supply for days such as this.

As I am living in the family home with some decade on its name, the current tank is all rusted and unusable. I know it is about time to get it replaced, but with the convenience of having another place to jump to, well… the rest is history. I should get on to it when I have the cash to do so, obviously. Meanwhile, let’s just hope that there’s no water interruption anytime soon!

Golden Opportunity Came Knocking

July 17th, 2011

Lady luck heard my cry. She finally pitied me and send some grace my way. A golden opportunity came knocking on my door, a dream job that excites me beyond belief. A job offer that is almost too good to be true, almost, but really, for someone like me, it is in fact a God-sent blessing.

What’s the job? As I am indeed graduated with IT skills on my back years ago, a good friend thought I am good enough for this job even though I lack the professional experience in this field. Thank you for the vote of confidence and taking the risk of recommending me to your boss. The job requires me to be a web admin, IT personnel too maybe, while at the same time blogging and doing write ups for this well established dive/tours company. Apart from that, I am required to SCUBA dive at their dive site(s)  in order for me to write well, and also to travel every now and then to promote their dive and tour packages.

As you well know, I enjoy writing and blogging. I am also a certified SCUBA diver as of last December, a great Christmas gift from a dear friend/distant cousin, a Dive Instructor. Traveling is another passion of mine. I just love getting on the plane and spending some time away from home always is a fresh change from the routine.  This makes me appreciate my homeland more.

As great as this opportunity is to me, I am well aware that I am expected to be able to carry out the responsibility to the fullest. I’ve got to walk the talk! With this thought, some doubts came creeping in. Quoting a gentle reminder from that same friend/cousin, “Jangan yang dikejar tak dapat, yang dikendong berciciran”. That’s a Malay idiom that relatively means “a bird in hand is worth two in the bush”, I think! I better be sure or I’ll risk myself getting into hot water. Meanwhile, looking for some cheap laptops would be a good idea to help me with the learning process, or maybe a new external hard drive as my current laptop is overflowing with data.

So yes, a decision is to be made, with much thinking beforehand. I am all out for this challenge, and I am indeed determine to refresh my knowledge in IT.  Time to leave the comfort zone, take up the challenge, and get updated on the IT stuff! We all know that golden opportunity such as this doesn’t always come along.
